Jessica's Law
Jessica's Law is designed to protect children from sexual predators by punishing, tracking and reducing offenders' ability to re-offend. Wikipedia has a brief explanation of Jessica's Law.
In the Montana Standard profile of the Senate District 37 race, I pointed out a difference between myself and my opponent - that he voted against Jessica's Law and that I will promote legislation to protect children.
My opponent, Senator Steve Gallus, clarified his position the next day in the Montana Standard. He points out he voted for the Senate version of the bill but against the committee report - the committee report that became the bill that he voted against.
The fact is that Sen. Gallus voted twice against the bill that became Jessica's Law (Second and Third Reading, SB 547, April 26, 2007). It was a simple "Yea" or "Nay" - he voted "Nay". If a majority of the State Senate had voted with Sen. Gallus, Jessica's Law would not have passed.
I call that a vote against.
I encourage you to check the record for yourself.
